The Reasons Podcasts Are So Popular

The Reasons Podcasts Are So Popular

Thinking of Hiring a Podcast Production Agency?

We both enjoy podcasts that much is obvious. But why are podcasts so popular? We’ve struggled to keep this hidden, multifaceted source of entertainment and knowledge hidden for the last few years, but it seems like more and more people are finding out about it every day. Podcasts are not exactly a new form of media; in fact, some people would argue that they are not at all recent. However, over the course of the most recent few years, we have witnessed them being created and downloaded at record rates.

So, let’s dig into why podcasts are so popular right now.

1. They’re Easy to Access

It takes very little effort to listen to a podcast if you have a mobile device like a smartphone or tablet, or computer. If a native podcatching app is not already pre-installed on your smartphone or tablet, downloading one is as simple as making a few taps or swiping through the app store. If you have access to a computer and Google, you can simply type the word “podcast” into the search engine, and the first few results that appear will provide you with access to podcasts.

Podcasts are not only simple to access but also, in almost all instances (*this number is not an actual one that has been reported), free. You can, without a doubt, use a paid music streaming service like Spotify. On the other hand, you can listen to the vast majority of podcasts for free within the app or browser. Because it is so simple and cost-free to access, podcasting has become an increasingly popular form of entertainment and education.

2. You Are Free to Hear Whatever You Choose to Play

The number of podcast episodes that are currently available to listeners is over 45 million (*this is an actual reported number). There is a good chance that whatever it is that you want to listen to is already available as a podcast; all it takes is a few clicks and possibly a search on your part.

It doesn’t matter if you’re interested in an in-depth discussion on a particular true-crime case, want to catch up on the latest political news, need to escape with a fictional story, or want to up your business game with some new tips and tricks because there is a podcast for that. Podcasts are another option for getting your ASMR or binaural beats fix whenever you need it.

People want content to be delivered to them on topics that they are interested in, as we live in a world that is driven by content. The fact that listeners get to decide what they want to hear is at least one factor that contributes to the widespread appeal of podcasts. You have the ability to select precisely what you would like.

3. They’re Adaptable to Multiple Tasks

There is not a single person that I know who only listens to podcast episodes.

When I’m working, I listen to Dateline; when I’m blogging, I listen to True Crime Obsessed; when I’m researching, I listen to 48 Hours and Forensic Files; but when I’m relaxing, I never just sit in a chair with a glass of wine and listen to a podcast. And I truly don’t know anyone that does.

When we podcasters are demonstrating our superior comedic abilities and laying down our expert knowledge, we would dearly love to believe that the audience’s attention is solely focused on us. Podcasts, on the other hand, are designed to be listened to while one is engaged in another activity. The fact that a podcast can be played in the background as background noise that is either entertaining or informative is the answer to the question of why podcasts are so popular. They are a fantastic option for a wide variety of activities, including driving, cleaning, cooking, and working.

4. They Create a Sense of Closeness

When I say that podcasts build intimacy, I’m not referring to the fact that they bring you closer to a loved one. However, if you and your significant other listen to podcasts together in the same way that you watch television, that very well may be the case. Instead, I’m talking about intimacy with the hosts.

When you’re watching The Avengers and Chris Evans’ Captain America appears on the screen, you can’t help but feel a connection to the character and, by extension, the actor who plays him. You are aware, however, that it is not the actual person.

However, when it comes to podcasting, particularly those that focus on non-fiction topics, you connect with a real-life host (or several hosts). In addition to this, in comparison to the typical media personality, they are typically a lot easier to get in touch with through various social channels or via email.

The experience of listening to a podcast is analogous to spending time with friends and participating in a conversation about a subject that piques your interest. The established connection between the two parties encourages listeners to return for more.

5. Create an Instant Community for Your Users

Podcasters created communities in order to engage their listeners and expand their audience. But this does more than just increase the number of downloads and help engage sponsors; it also attracts listeners who are looking for a community to join.

One of the aspects that sets podcasting apart from other entertainment-based mediums and helps to put it in a category all its own is the communities that have formed around it. The communities are more similar to those that you might experience with a blog than with a film or television show because they provide private spaces to interact with hosts, a glimpse into the world behind the scenes, and lots of opportunities to interact with other members of the community.

The number of people listening to podcasts is only expected to keep growing.

Podcasts are becoming increasingly popular as people are staying home for longer periods of time, and as entertainment provided by the television (or the screen of a laptop) is seen as less of a reward and more of a distraction. Customers, or listeners in the case of podcasts, are looking for more ways to connect with one another and more options to select from.

The number of people listening to podcasts has been on the rise, but there is still a long way to go before it begins to stabilize. Keeping up with the most recent trends in podcasting is an absolute necessity if you want the audience for your podcast to find it interesting and relevant to listen to. Being a podcaster has, in all honesty, never been more appealing than it is right now.
